About

Living in Largs, Scotland, I took up photography as a hobby in retirement. Apart from ten evening classes on portraiture at Ayr College, the sources of my education have largely been YouTube, photography based websites and internet courses. Another source of learning is from the feedback of camera club judges on my and others' images.

I was with Girvan camera club for a few years. When I moved to Largs, I joined Irvine camera club, a truly wonderful club.

I'm learning how to take portraits, landscapes, macro, flower  and still life, images. The latter demands an artistic flair that eludes me, but it's a great genre when the weather is foul! Nature photography is more or less restricted to the garden because I don't have a lens with the reach needed for 'proper' nature photography. Similarly, sports photography is not in my bag of tricks for want of a suitable lens. Street photography is a genre I would like to get into - just as soon as I can work up the bottle to get out there and do it! Anything that doesn't fit in the four categories above, I've gathered in a miscellaneous group.

I have listed links to YouTube channels and web pages that I found invaluable in learning photography and post-processing using Lightroom and Photoshop. I have also included some documents that I use as aide-memoires. These are notes I made to myself from YouTube channels. â€‹â€‹
